Dana stood at my desk, shifting her weight from side to side. “I didn’t turn my paper in,” she said. “I just didn’t know what to do. I feel so overwhelmed.”
Dana had panicked. Hers is a complaint I hear often from students. Then I ask them—What are you eating these days?
Doughnuts. Red Bull. Cheetos. M&M’s. Pizza.
OK. The math of the body is not difficult. If you eat sugar or mostly carbohydrates, which the body turns to sugar, you will launch your blood sugar into the stratosphere, increasing anxiety. The pleasure of eating sugary food may seem to comfort you for a moment, but it is the comfort of poison.
Anxiety. Decreased immunity. Weight Gain. Headaches. Drowsiness. These are just a few of the faces of this comforter.
I challenge you to stop eating sugar and reduce your carbohydrates for one week, and feel the difference.
